ORGANIZATION: Outreach Uganda

Our Ugandan Women Beaders
We work with over 200 women on beading and other income-generation projects, and impact over 1500 people if we count their dependents. Here, our Jinja beaders are cutting paper, and rolling beads. Two of our board members, Carol and Conchetta, are looking on.

Help us stand out in the crowd! We need someone with business-related social media and marketing expertise including practical experience (ideally with nonprofits) to implement specific ideas relative to our Instagram Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts depending on the time you have available. We have many "Likes" on our page, but would like to upgrade our posts, have a consistent posting schedule, and truly try to engage our supporters.

We would welcome your ideas and feedback relative to other ideas to implement. We would like to make our page more "conversational" and provide items of interest to our followers including videos. Please help us figure out how to connect with our audience and tell our story in a compelling and honest way to ultimately find those who will eventually become committed to helping our cause. We would consider spending a small monthly amount on advertising if this is beneficial.

Description

Our empowerment activities include:

Income-generation activities include:
1. provision of internal revolving loan funds
2.marketing of the Ugandan women's craft products in the U.S. and Canada
3. business development assistance
4. cash crop agriculture activities

Education and training activities include:
1. scholarship and sponsorship programs for over 200 children
2. girls' education initiative program to keep young girls in school
3. training programs for women as well as teachers

Community empowerment programs include:
1. partnering with a northern Uganda community on its primary school which has over 500 students and 18 teachers and 9 support staff
2. partnering with a northern Uganda community on a clinic serving over 5000 people
3. assisting our Jinja women's group with a home building program to provide women a decent place to live where they can move out of the slums and stabilize their lives

Prior to working with OU, our women participants were normally living on less than $2 per day, and were supporting 8 to 10 children and orphans in their households. Many are widows whose husbands died in the war, or from AIDS.

We do not give handouts but work on building capacity and encouraging those we work with to help themselves.
