Disaster Services Volunteers
Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs by providing temporary shelter, food, and health and mental health services to address basic human needs. In addition to these services, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently.
Blood Mobile Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help with the Bloodmobile in many different ways. First and foremost we need people that will donate blood. Blood cannot be manufactured, the only way we can get it for those who need it, is from people, like you, that can donate blood. Make an appointment today by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or going to www.redcrossblood.org
Our Bloodmobile volunteers also help by working at the event, being a Greeter, welcoming donors having them sign in and allowing them to read the information that will prepare them for their donation. Once those donors are finished with their blood donation, they are given refreshments, allowed to rest and asked to make an appointment for the next time, we need volunteers that will help with that process and make sure that our blood donors are refreshed and ok to go on with their day. If this sounds like the spot for you, please contact our local chapter, today.
General Office Support
We also have daily activities that need the help of volunteers, from our newsletter, to filing, to organizing, to general data entry, to calling for blood mobile appointments, projects come up all of the time. So if office work is a little more up your alley, please let us know and we will find a spot for you.
Blood Pressure Screeners
South Central Minnesota Chapter of the American Red Cross provides Blood Pressure screenings at various locations throughout Mankato. We are looking to have more locations available in the different communities that we serve. Locations are usually held once a month on a certain day of that month. By having set dates and times there is consistency and helps to develop a clientele. We also go out to local businesses and perform blood pressure screenings for employees of that business.
If you have an interest in taking Blood Pressures, there is a choice of using the traditional Sphygmomanometer and stethoscope or using a digital reader. Training for Blood Pressures is provided at the Red Cross office for either way of taking blood pressures.
