Volunteers deliver food to seniors in need

Each month we deliver groceries to 140 low-income senior citizens in DuPage and Kane Counties. These deliveries include about 100 pounds of non-perishable food, fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, bread, paper products, and personal care items.

Deliveries take place on a Saturday each month (usually the 3rd Saturday of the month). Grocery items are picked-up at our Carol Stream location between 8:45 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

You will have to consent to a background check.

This opportunity is NOT available for court appointed service hours.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Humanitarian Service Project to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty brings to seniors and children in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois, without discrimination or exclusion for any reason.

Description

Through our three programs, HSP provides life changing support to impoverished seniors, children, and families throughout DuPage and Kane. These programs are:

Senior Citizen Project - Provides nutritious groceries on a monthly basis to the elderly. Each senior receives a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishables, bread, paper products, hygiene items and a small gift from their "Secret Pal" donor.

Children’s Project- Provides children with nutritional support at critical times of the year to combat hunger and food insecurity. Children ages 3 to 11 also receive a birthday box filled with gifts, books, schools supplies and party supplies.

Christmas Offering- Provides nutritious groceries and Christmas presents to 1900+ children and 135+ seniors living in poverty. Over 22 tons of food and 10,000+ gifts are distributed during December.
