ORGANIZATION: Bi-State Wildlife Hotline

1/28 training

The Bi-State Wildlife Hotline is a nonprofit organization that rescues, raises, and releases native wildlife when they are sick, injured, or orphaned. We operate a 24-hour hotline staffed by volunteers out of their homes in order to provide our rescue and rehab services. Every year in March/April we are inundated with 100's of calls from area residents in need of help with orphaned baby wildlife that needs assessment by phone, reunited with Mom if possible, or rescued/picked up, triaged, and raised/rehabilitated until old enough and/or well enough to be released back to the wild.
Because of our insane schedule in the spring and summer, we only accept new volunteers ONCE per year, in January. That time is RIGHT NOW! We are in need of people to help man our phones, assist with animal pickups, help with animal and medical care, and everything else!
You must live in Missouri or Illinois and be at least 18 years old in order to work for the Wildlife Hotline. This is a volunteer position and 100% unpaid but training and signup is completely free. We will never charge volunteers for anything. Previous experience in veterinary field or similar field is a plus, but not required. Must love animals, not be afraid to get dirty, and have a working knowledge of texting and basic chat applications on your smartphone.

The first step to working with us is to visit www.wildlifehotline.com/volunteer to fill out an application. Mandatory training is THIS Saturday, 1/28/17 from 10am-5pm at the Humane Society of MO 1201 Macklind Ave, St. Louis MO 63110

You can also call us at (636) 492-1610 Ext 4 or email us at work@wildlifehotline.com if you have any questions.

Mission Statement

We improve the lives of wildlife through advocacy, education and support.

Description

Bi-State Wildlife Hotline is a nonprofit organization that runs a 24 Hour Hotline for wildlife issues. (Not unlike 911) After speaking with callers, we try to help them handle wildlife conflicts humanely, teach them what they need to know, and those callers are usually very happy. During the spring and summer months however, most of our calls are due to orphaned baby animals. We have to determine over the phone if this animal truly is orphaned or if it can be reunited with its Mom. If not, we take in those orphans and raise them until they are released. It makes for a crazy spring/summer each year, but we love it! We ALWAYS need help with taking hotline phone calls, and that can be done from your home. We also need help with animal care, rescue and pickup, and fundraising events. We only offer training ONE TIME per year for new volunteers, and that is usually in Feb or March of each year. You can always find out more about us by visiting us on Facebook or by checking out our volunteer page at www.wildlifehotline.com/vol
