Join a dynamic group of individuals motivated by the need to protect our natural world with particular emphasis on environmental conservation and education. Eastside Audubon connects people with nature through bird and plant walks, conservation activities and a wide variety of classes for both children and adults. Volunteers work to protect wildlife and their habitats through our Conservation Committee. Our Education Committee teaches children and adults about birds and wildlife and their value in the community. Our members enjoy studying our local flora and fauna through monthly programs and weekly field trips.

Conservation is an important aspect of our organization and we are seeking a program coordinator who is passionate about conservation issues and wants to make a difference for birds on the Eastside. This is Part-time, volunteer position approximately, 15-20 hours per week, with a lot of flexibility in scheduling. Some evening and weekend work will be necessary.

Position Summary
The Program Coordinator will develop and promote the Eastside Audubon’s Lights out for Birds component of our Bird Friendly Community (BFC) Program within the framework of our service area offerings. In relation to Lights Out, the coordinator will synchronize the chapter’s activities, including:

  • Create an awareness campaign regarding effects of artificial lighting on birds, specifically during migration
  • Increase chapter impact on flyway conservation priorities, strategic planning and new program planning for Bird Friendly Communities and Lights Out for Birds
  • Strengthen community partnerships with other interested stakeholders

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out direction from the General Manager and Board of Directors in and implementing conservation and education programs within our service area
  • Develop and implement an outreach strategy for local business and city leaders to educate them about Lights Out for birds, to include making personal presentations as needed
  • Coordinate tasks with the Volunteer Chair and Volunteer Coordinator, inspire and lead volunteers, track volunteer hours, and participate in volunteer appreciation events
  • Meet regularly with the General Manager
  • Attend monthly conservation and membership meetings, and some board meetings
  • Develop tool kits for press, building owners, tenants, and volunteers
  • Maintain regular communication with enrollees, partners, and other stakeholders through appropriate methods (e.g., e-newsletter, updates, alerts, meetings); update Lights Out section of Chapter website as necessary
  • Create summaries of results for Audubon staff and board

Qualifications

  • A college degree in a related field is preferred, along with demonstrated work or volunteer experience in conservation fields.
  • Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, including public speaking/presentations; experienced with digital communication and social media tools.
  • Effective capacity- and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills, including demonstrated project management experience.
  • Some weekends and evenings are required.
