Fall 2018 Program Internship Position

Reports to: Executive Director & Program Coordinator

Organization Description

GOTR Central KY is a non-profit, community-based program that uses the power of running to educate and inspire girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program began in Lexington, KY in 2008 with less than 10 volunteer coaches and 26 girls and now has more than 250 volunteer coaches who mentor nearly 800 young girls (3 rd- 8 thgrade) in after-school sessions that combine training for a 5K running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting lessons. GOTR Central KY sessions integrate specific life-skills training such as healthy decision-making, dealing with bullies, contributing to the community, leadership and teamwork.

Position Summary

The GOTR Central KY Intern works with the staff to help with preparation for the Girls on the Run program and any spring fundraising events. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Coaching at 1 or more locations
  • Assist with the compilation of GOTR team coaching kits and supplies
  • Assist volunteers with GOTR and Heart & Sole projects
  • Prepare for GOTR coach meetings
  • Work with the 5K and special event committees
  • Attend 5K and special events
  • Track and verifycoach applicant and team information
  • Conduct site visits periodically to audit that curriculum is being delivered properly without material alteration as well as develop our teams and show appreciation/support
  • Serve as a substitute coach as needed
  • Assist with coach training
  • Assistwith administrative duties that support the overall operations of GOTR (i.e., assist with data entry, etc.)

Time Commitment

  • The fall intern is expected to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. Applicant must be available Mondays - Fridays between 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm for duration of 10 -12 weeks. Some flexibility is available on hours.
  • Position starts mid August and runs through December 8 th.

Girls on the Run Central Kentucky is a life-changing, non-profit program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grade. Our mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.

Girls on the Run combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with healthy living education. Our programs instill self-esteem through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships, and physical training - all of which are accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff and the community.
