Do you have a couple of hours a week to help adult immigrant students improve their literacy skills? Would you like to join our team of volunteer tutors in a dynamic literacy program? Asian Human Services is looking for volunteers to work with students from around the world who are improving their English to find meaningful work, help their children succeed in school, and thrive in their community.
Our Literacy Education for Adults and Families (LEAF) program is located in Chicago’s West Ridge neighborhood, and we work closely with our volunteers to match them with the right students and make sure they have the training and support needed to succeed. We welcome volunteers both new and experienced with tutoring, especially those who are interested in ESL education and immigrant services. Working one-on-one with friendly, appreciative students, you will not only make a tangible impact, but also professionally develop your own hard and soft skills.
Tutoring happens on weekdays (Monday-Friday) from 9:00-11 am or 11:30-1 pm. We kindly ask that all volunteers commit to at least 1 tutoring session per week for a minimum of 1 ESL term (Jan-Apr, May-Aug, Sep-Dec) or 3 consecutive months, as building positive relationships with students includes making a consistent commitment. Come join us in making a difference!
