The San Diego History Center has an exciting volunteer opportunity available related to a new innovative virtual reality project for the Junipero Serra Museum/Presidio Park site. We are creating technology that will allow visitors to experience Presidio Park through a new, exciting, immersive experience. The virtual reality product will visually reconstruct the Presidio site as it was in 1790 giving users a glimpse into its surroundings and activity. The virtual reality layout will be designed using findings from four previous archeological digs of the Presidio and additional historical research of the site and time period.
The San Diego History Center needs volunteers to help generate content. THERE IS NO SPECIFIC SKILL SET REQUIRED. If you’re simply interested in interpreting the past and learning about new innovations then you will be provided all the necessary training. This is an opportunity for everyone with every skill set who’s willing to donate time. You’ll get the chance to work at multiple sites including the STEAM Maker Workshop who we've partnered with to develop the technology. This means education and the ability to work on state-of-the-art gear for a real-world project.
Informational meetings will be held every 3-6 weeks for interested volunteers for the duration of the project (approximately five months).
Click on the "I want to help" button or contact Alison Hendrickson, ahendrickson@sandiegohistory.org to get involved or to find out more about the project.
