The Volunteer Foster Caregiver communicates directly with the Director of Primary Prevention
while pet victims are residing within their care. Volunteer Foster Caregivers provide a temporary
safe and loving home for pets belonging to domestic violence and sexual assault victims. The
Volunteer Foster Caregiver will care for the pet victim/s anywhere between 30-90 days, while their
owner flees the situation of abuse and secures safe permanent housing. The Volunteer Foster
Caregiver will assist with providing food, shelter, and other needed supplies for the pet. The
Volunteer Foster Caregiver will be responsible for providing regular updates to the Director of
Primary Prevention. The Volunteer Foster Caregiver will abide by all Beacon of Hope Crisis
Center’s Confidentiality Policies and understand the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual
assault.

Primary Responsibilities:
* Feeding, housing, and caring for a foster pet victim/s in their home for 30-90 days
* Ensuring the pet’s safety, well-being, and daily needs are met while caring for the pet
* Providing regular updates and keep reliable communication with the Director of Primary
Prevention
* Insuring the completion of forms (application, background check, liability waiver, weekly
reporting)
* Transport the pet/s to any medical appointments (spay/neuter, microchipping, vaccines,
emergency vet visits) if/when needed

Beacon of Hope offers the following services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault: crisis support, victim advocacy, case management, counseling, employment assistance, court accompaniment, life skills training, teen dating violence education and outreach, foster pet care, and community awareness.
