STEM Career Workshops

Our sessions on Career Roadmap will be from 2:15-4:00 PM
There will be three panels of 30 minutes on each of the following topics:
Self-promotion covering resumes, LinkedIn and interview skills
Internships and mentorship covering examples and opportunities for internships, how to obtain an internship position, and how to find and use good mentors
Admissions and scholarships covering how to get into STEM programs (undergraduate and graduate) and how to fund your education
We ask our panelists to choose one session and speak to one of these areas of career development (with additional suggestions for sub-topics welcomed!)
Groups of around 30 young women attendees will rotate through the session and be able to attend each, so each panel will happen three times consecutively.
Our panelists will be featured individually in our program and will be able and encouraged to provide handouts
The sessions will be followed by a happy hour to network further with the young women as well as the other attendees!

The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is a national nonprofit dedicated to achieving equity and full participation of women in all STEM disciplines and across all employment sectors. AWIS has over 50 Chapters and Affiliate Groups nationwide led by engaged AWIS members. AWIS San Diego is a star chapter committed to supporting the advancement of women in STEM fields by providing opportunities to participate in professional networking, mentoring and leadership activities, aided by its 11 committees.
Description
The Association of Women in Science (AWIS) supports the advancement of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). The San Diego chapter's Outreach Committee runs events throughout the year designed to fulfill our mission and our committee's goals:
- Inspire and nurture curiosity in STEM
- Design unique STEM programming
- Promote visibility of women as role models & leaders
- Support growth of our members and mission
- Foster partnerships to expand resources
We welcome anyone to join us as a volunteer who is excited about STEM and intersted in inspiring community members and aspiring scientists. This includes AWIS members, non-members, and people of any age, gender or profession (see individual events for possible restrictions). We hope you'll consider volunteering for one of our events!
