Volunteer Position Description

Position Title: Volunteer Assistant

Reports to: Volunteer Program Manager

Hours: 6-12 hours a week, typically 2-3 days a week (Schedule is negotiable)

Duration: minimum 6 months

Position Overview:

The primary goal of the Volunteer Assistant is support the Volunteer Manager in administrative duties for the volunteer program. The Volunteer Assistant will also host a minimum of 2 volunteer welcome sessions every month. This position’s success will ultimately result in volunteers with a deeper engagement and commitment to Habitat for Humanity and the mission of building homes and hope in our communities, as well as, helping our environment. This is a volunteer position.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment, Retention and Recognition:

  • Screen, interview and train new volunteers

  • Manage recruitment postings on ReStore’s website and on community websites

  • Ensure all new volunteers are on-boarded appropriately into the ReStore’s volunteer program by:

    • Host at least 2 Welcome and/or Orientation Sessions per month

    • Complete the paperwork for these sessions

    • Assist in the scheduling of a volunteer’s first shift

  • Communicate relevant ReStore and Affiliate information to volunteers including, but not limited to, the production of a monthly newsletter

  • Help the V.P.M. respond in a timely manner to all volunteer inquiries

  • Assist with planning and executing volunteer recognition events (at least 2 annually)

  • Occasionally assist with outreach at community events to recruit a diverse pool of volunteers

Administrative:

  • Assists with reporting volunteer time, as necessary, to community partners

  • Assist the Volunteer Program Manager with keeping accurate records of volunteer numbers and time

  • Keep volunteer handouts and forms up-to-date

  • Enter volunteer information into database programs and maintain volunteer paperwork

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and cloud based technology

  • Supervisory experience required

  • The ability to communicate with, supervise and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles-experience with volunteers preferred

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with diverse populations (age, race, socioeconomic, faith, etc.)

  • Positive, can-do attitude even in the face of challenges

  • Detailed oriented.

  • Ability to multi-task.

  • Ability to adapt and collaborate in an ever-changing environment

*Would prefer that this individual volunteer at least one day during the week, and one day on the weekend. Total volunteer time would be 3-4 hours per shift.
