No matter who you are, you've got something to offer hospice patients. Typically, the needs are simple: companionship and friendship, emotional support, someone to listen and give the gift of their time.. But the small things you do can make an enormous difference in someone's life. You can assist patients by visiting, reading, writing letters, playing music, or just sitting quietly. We serve patients and families in their homes and in various care facilities in the Plymouth area. This flexible location means that there is likely a patient close to you. Most volunteers commit to only one to four hours per week. The timing is also flexible to fit your schedule.
This opportunity will let you practice soft and social skills, such as active listening, empathy, and conversation. It will also give you experience in a health care environment. Both of these reflect positivly on a resume.
Requirements:
Volunteers must be 18 years or older with good interpersonal and communication skills. Orientation and training are provided.
Volunteers need to have the ability to work independently with indirect supervision, and a willingness to help others as a member of the hospice team. Volunteer schedules are based on your availability and are very flexible. Assignments are based on your level of comfort.
