This position supports the work of Best Friends’ local Gift Advisor, who serves to advance Best Friends’ mission to Save Them All by raising funds so we can do what we do! This opportunity is based out of our Sugarhouse Pet Adoption Center but has the potential for some work-from-home opportunities. Work in this role is entirely hands-off from the adoptable animals, but serves to benefit them just the same! This volunteer position is ideal for those interested in learning more about fundraising, nonprofits, and even those considering going into development work... Or just those who can use a computer, like to write cards, and love to help!
Duties and Essential Functions
- Write and address scripted thank you cards
- Basic data entry including changing drop-down menus and finding addresses
- Assist with curating event invitations
- Assist with local events and donor functions
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Basic computer skills are necessary, along with the ability to learn our donor software program (HERO). You should have the ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality of all donor information, good and legible penmanship, be fluent in English, and be articulate with a good use of grammar. Attention to detail is key, and any familiarity with Microsoft Office and/or Google Drive/Sheets/Docs is a bonus!
Schedule
Schedule will be determined on an individual basis between the staff and volunteer. Expect around 2-4 hours per week initially.
Minimum age requirement
Volunteers for this position must be 18 years of age or older. Exceptions may be made on an individual basis.
Training and Orientation
All training will be done on the job. An individual interview will be set up to allow you to learn more about the work and familiarize yourself with the software.
Comments
No heavy lifting required! The ideal candidate understands how vital donor stewardship and appreciation are, and is eager to assist with making our donors feel warmly acknowledged. Familiarity with Blackbaud products is a bonus, but definitely not necessary. When volunteering in the office, please remember to dress appropriately for a casual office setting.

Mission Statement
The mission of Best Friends is to end the killing in America's animal shelters and create a time when there are No More Homeless Pets. We do this by building community programs and partnerships all across the nation. We believe that by working together we can Save Them All.
Description
Best Friends Animal Society in Utah works collaboratively with animal rescue groups, city shelters and passionate individuals who are all dedicated to the mission of making Utah a no-kill state. The Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Sugarhouse provides adoptions, animal fostering opportunities, and serves as a base of operations for our community cat and shelter support programs. Volunteers help us achieve our goals in many ways, including fostering animals in their own homes, distributing food in our Pet Food Pantry, keeping our center clean and healthy for the animals, spreading our message to the community at outreach events, and driving animals to where they need to go.
Best Friends Animal Society is a nationwide leader in the No-Kill movement. Founded on the idea that no animals should have to die in shelters while resources exist to help them, our organization began with the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, UT, the world's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals. Our focus on a better world through kindness to animals has led to a variety of programs, including efforts to end breed-discriminatory legislation and unethical "puppy-mill" breeding operations, advocacy of Trap-Neuter-Return programs for community cats, and rescue transports to help animals in overcrowded shelters find homes. We believe that together we can Save Them All!
