Regular volunteer
Join us as a volunteer for our Homeless Persons Memorial Day ("HPMD"). HMPD is a national day of commemoration for anyone who passed away while experiencing homelessness. It will be held on Wednesday, December 21st during the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. The memorial includes reading the names of those who have passed this year while unstably housed in NYC with a candle lit in their honor and a bell tolled in remembrance. It is a program that is free and open to the public, as an opportunity to remember and advocate for better policy that can end homelessness as we know it.
Volunteers are needed to help with set up, registration and greeting of attendees, serving food and cleaning up afterwards. The event is set to begin with a meal at 4pm and the program, will start at 5pm. Overall we ask for a 2-7 pm commitment which includes set up and clean up time.
Care for the Homeless is a non-profit organization that operates 30 medical clinics in partnership with shelters, soup kitchens, and drop in locations throughout the city. We also operate a 200-bed, transitional residence for homeless women in the Bronx called Susan’s Place.

Mission Statement
Care For the Homeless fights homelessness by delivering high-quality and client-centered health care, human services and shelter to homeless individuals and families, and by advocating for policies to ameliorate, prevent and end homelessness.
Description
Care For the Homeless (CFH) serves 10,000 homeless men, women, and children annually and provides comprehensive health care at multiple sites co-located at soup kitchens, shelters, drop-in centers and street outreach programs in all 5 boroughs of NYC. Our service delivery model provides care where homeless individuals and families are receiving a variety of other services with the goal of reducing barriers to accessing high-quality health care. CFH also operates three transitional housing sites with on-site health care and is expanding shelter services in the future, ensuring a safe, supportive path to permanent housing.
In addition, CFH is committed to ending homelessness by conducting public education, research, and analysis of model programs and practices that create permanent housing opportunities, and by shaping policies to prevent future homelessness.
