Do you love to create? Have you ever written a poem, a short story, or perhaps even a novel? Love to read?
Reed Elementary in Tacoma, WA is seeking enthusiastic volunteers who enjoy working with elementary-aged youth in our after school Young Authors program!
The Young Authors program allows students to create their own work of literature from cover to cover - students brainstorm, create drafts, edit, create more drafts, edit, draw a picture for each page, and then "publish" their work in our computer lab/bind their books!
The program is meant for 10 students but we could expand enrollment to 15 with a committed volunteer or two!
Students in our Young Authors program are 2nd-3rd grade. Young Authors occurs every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 - 5:15pm.
Young Authors will begin on Monday, October 2nd and will go until Thursday, June 7th.
The daily schedule is as follows:
3:30 - 3:45 - Welcoming activity/Q&A
3:45 - 3:55 - Snack time
4:00 - 4:45 - Activity - Young Authors
4:45 - 5:15 - Academic enrichment and mentoring
In order to volunteer, all we ask is that you come to the main office and complete a volunteer packet. Once approved, we would love to have you working with our students!!!
