The Justice & Diversity Center (JDC) trains volunteer attorneys to represent low-income people and families who need legal help. We assist clients with divorces, child custody, support, guardianship petitions, conservatorships, wills, and powers of attorney. JDC trains attorneys of all practice areas and experience levels in basic family law. We then provide supervision and malpractice insurance as attorneys take on matters and cases for low-income clients in San Francisco. A volunteer attorney can take a case from start to finish, or provide limited-scope representation to assist with specific motions.
Volunteering with JDC is a great way for attorneys to contribute to our community while gaining legal experience and learning family law. Volunteer attorneys receive training and mentoring from JDC’s Family Law Supervising Attorney. Attorneys must take our free two-part CLE training in family law (3 hours online, followed by 1 hour in person). In exchange for the free CLE, volunteers commit to taking two family law matters in the next year.
