The Source is a free event hosted at Central Library once a month and is aimed at providing essential services to community members experiencing homelessness. The Source brings community agencies together in one location to facilitate emergency shelter needs, DMV services, veteran services, health care services, CES housing, and more.

Volunteers will serve at the registration and refreshment tables, as ushers to guide patrons from room to room, as runners to assist staff, and will have other duties as assigned by staff depending on the resources present at each month's event.

The Source is held on the last Tuesday of each month. Volunteers are requested to sign up if they can assist as ongoing volunteers at The Source event from 12:15-3:30 p.m.

If you are only available for one month, please indicate that as well. Some accommodations can be made.

If you would like to be considered for an ongoing volunteer position at The Source after your one-time volunteer opportunity in, please read the information below:

Prospective Volunteers must be fingerprinted. Volunteers are requested to commit to at least 3 months of scheduled dates due to the fingerprinting requirement. Please indicate which months you are available to volunteer when you express interest via VolunteerMatch.

About Los Angeles Public Library

Location:

630 W. 5th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90071, US

Mission Statement

The Los Angeles Public Library provides free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our city's diverse communities.

Description

The Los Angeles Public Library is largest public research institution west of the Mississippi.

With more than 70 branch libraries and Central Library subject departments serving millions of Angelenos on a yearly basis, our programs are supported by thousands of volunteers in a variety of capacities. Whether providing one on one literacy tutoring, cutting out craft supplies for story time activities, helping serve summer lunch at the library, or serving as a Friend of the Library, all volunteers play a role in the work of LAPL.

If you would like to volunteer, but don't see a listing that matches your interests, please contact your local branch or the Volunteer Engagement Office. Opportunities and needs vary by location and fluctuate throughout the year.

Please note that the minimum age for volunteers is 14 (with the exception of 11-13-year-olds joining Teen Councils), minimum time commitments are required for most opportunities, adult volunteers working with children will be fingerprinted, and LAPL does not accept court-mandated community service.
