NOTE: OUR NEXT VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION WILL BE IN JULY 2017. PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS OPPORTUNITY.

Jeremiah’s Place is a crisis nursery and engages volunteers to assist staff in caring for children ages’ birth to six in a therapeutic environment to help minimize the effects of a stressful situation or traumatic experience. Volunteers help the staff to maintain a healthy and loving environment by providing primary care for the physical and emotional needs of the children. Volunteers take direction from staff to suit these needs.

Volunteer duties may include "baby holding," reading to a young child, assisting in an arts and craft projects, therapeutic play or other typical tasks associated with the care of young children. Light housekeeping and assisting with meal time duties may also be required. Volunteers must be willing to provide their full attention to the children while in the nursery.

Volunteers are expected to abide by our values of kindness, care, and acceptance. Jeremiah's Place is a safe space that is free of judgement. We serve children and families who are in crisis, creating an environment of healing and support.

About JEREMIAHS PLACE - PITTSBURGH RELIEF NURSERY

Location:

6435 Frankstown Ave, PITTSBURGH, PA 15206, US

Mission Statement

Protecting Children, Strengthening Families, Transforming Communities

Description

A relief nursery (also called a crisis nursery) is a 24/7, 365 days-a-year safe place for temporary care of children when families are in crisis. It is not a long-term day care center, but a place for "ordinary people in extraordinary situations, in need of temporary help" (http://everything2.com/title/Crisis+nursery ).

Families may experience crisis for a variety of reasons, including a parent or sibling in the hospital, a parent needing to travel out of town for a job interview, or a parent being so overwhelmed by the daily demands of life that he or she doesn’t feel able to care for their child at that time. The types of crises are limitless, but the truth remains that the child needs to feel safety and comfort in the midst of a difficult time. That safety and comfort will be found at Jeremiah's Place.
