Urbanstead is looking for board members to join our Active Board of Directors and help steer us forward as we develop!
As we enter our third year of operation to provide leadership, career opportunities, food access and literacy through urban agriculture in Philadelphia, we are looking for dedicated individuals that would be willing to help us grow and develop within the community. Urbanstead currently operates the Francisville Urban Farm and Orchard in North Philly. Urbanstead’s mission is to achieve food security by uniting the community and creating programs to involve our city's vulnerable youth through the medium of urban farming. We work to develop leadership and career skills in urban agriculture with young people in Philadelphia. Urbanstead is dedicated to empowering our neighborhoods with the knowledge and skills to affect change toward more sustainable communities in our city. For more information please contact info@urbanstead.org or visit our website at www.urbanstead.org.
Collectively, the board helps to:
- Implement the Urbanstead strategic plan
- Develop community partnerships within Philadelphia
- Seek funding for the program
- Various other activities related to administering Urbanstead programming
We seek a mix of cultural, racial, gender, professional, and geographical diversity for the board. The Urbanstead board of directors collectively and ideally should be a mix of members who have experience in farming and gardening, working with diverse communities, real estate, land trusts, law, nutrition, social justice, finance, organizational development, public relations, policy, and grant writing.
Interested candidates should submit the a few sentences (~100 words) that will be presented along each candidate’s name on the ballot and a letter of interest stating why s/he would like to serve on the Urbanstead board, including any relevant biographical information to info@urbanstead.org

Description
Urbanstead started because we believe engaging young people in the experience of urban farming is one of the best ways to create healthy futures and to experience lessons that can be applied to many aspects of their lives. Our gardens are safe spaces to work, learn, and grow. We currently operate the Francisville Urban Farm and Orchard in North Philadelphia. The two main programs that encapsulate Urbanstead are Youth Plots, which is an all-ages hands-on urban farming experience, and Seedscapes, which works with young people ages 16-22 to improve self-confidence and personal management skills while also increasing access to healthy food option
