Mission Statement

To empower and enrich the lives of young women through education, innovative opportunities, life skill training, professional mentor-ship and global exposure. AIGLI has established active, strategic partnerships among corporate and community leaders and educational institutions, both domestic and international, to reduce generational poverty, gender inequalities, and address major socioeconomic and cultural barriers that prevent girls from going to school and becoming educated.

Description

A-WOW, 501 c (3) is committed to leadership development and enhancing cultural and socio-psychological change through the interactions between different cultures. Its acculturated program actively foster and promote education, leadership, and innovation while at the same time collectively tackling issues of illiteracy, poverty and teen pregnancy among the most vulnerable populations in Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Nigeria, Liberia, Costa Rica, India and the United States. We have chosen to focus on the work of leadership rather than just on the personal characteristics of individual leadership. We believe sustainable and scalable efforts require contributions from people in multiple roles. We believe young women need opportunities to express themselves in a world that makes them question who they are and what roles they should play as an adult. Our aims: to educate, empower, and enrich irrespective of social, religious or ethnic backgrounds. A-WOW International Girl Leadership Initiative objectives are to: 1) globally impact the quality of life for all women; 2) change the postsecondary trajectory for young women from developing world countries; and 3) engage UNT students in transformational learning activities to address and impact education and economic empowerment of women worldwide. Program measurements include: 1) Impact surveys- pre- and post- surveys of participant mindsets before and following the Young Woman World Summit, 2016; 2) White paper exploring the global condition of women’s education economic stability in the past, currently and in the near future.
