Children's Zoo keepers will be giving instruction and assistance during the event. General info on the stations is below:

Stations at this time include;
1. Bird banding station - visitors will learn how to band birds and have the opportunity to get "banded" themselves (wrist-bands) (located near Alabama Stream exhibit or carousel)
2. Bird feeders station - visitors can build a simple bird feeder to take home (all bird food will be peanut-free) (located at granny’s porch)
3. Observation station - visitors can learn how to use binoculars and field guides while viewing wild birds (located in Wilds trail - exact location TBD)
4. Bird bio-facts station in the barn - visitors can learn more about the characteristics and functions of birds through feathers, eggs, feet, etc.

5. Bird feeding educational activity- Game for the visitors to see different types of feeding techniques

In case of rain we will move stations inside the barn, under granny’s porch. In case of severe weather we will cancel activities or postpone until weather clears.

This program is meant to help inspire a passion for the bird world, and help scientists collect valuable data on local birds. For more official information about the project or participation outside of our event go to www.birdsource.org/gbbc .

Not-for-profit zoo focused on conservation, education, and the well-being of living things. We ask for $50.00 for adults and $50.00 for teens at the orientations to help us with the cost of a criminal background check (all volunteers and employees must have a check) and ID badge, t-shirt and to offset the cost of annual appreciation events. We offer free training for volunteers and provide discounts in the gift shop and food courts.
