Own a Cat? Help us save Dogs' lives! On-Going Volunteer Opportunities!

ORGANIZATION: Ace of Hearts

Love dogs? Want to help save them? WE ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF NEW VOLUNTEERS!!! Here is a run down of things we always need.

Cat Test

Do you have a cat? If you’ll allow our rescue dog to come over, on a leash and with a muzzle on to be introduced to your cat(s), let us know! Don’t worry; we only seek out cat tests for the dogs who we think will be good with cats (don’t react to stray cats, zero prey drive, etc). It only takes a few minutes, and helps us out immensely!

Stand By/Emergency Volunteers

We need you desperately!

You give us the days and times you are available and we add you to a list, if something comes up (dog walk, vet visit, shelter dog pick up) that day- you will be the first one we call. This helps us reach out to volunteers with availability that day instead of calling our entire volunteer list. If there is a day, half a day, or even a few hours you can volunteer to be placed on a "call in case of an emergency" list, let us know! This can be for any of the above, and almost always requires some driving. We try very hard to plan things in advance, but if there is a last minute opportunity to save a life, get a dog adopted, or a foster emergency it helps to have a handful of people we reach out to first!

Dog Walking

All of our rescue dogs live in foster homes, and we try very hard to avoid using boarding facilities for our dogs as we love for them to be in a home environment, however there are times when we need to place one or a few of our dogs in boarding while we search for and interview a new foster. To give our dogs some time outside of the kennel, we contact you to take he/she out, for whatever time you have available, on a walk, hike or a picnic at the park!

Temperament Tests

There are always shelter dogs we want to save and take into our rescue, and since we do not have a facility and our dogs go directly into a foster home, we need to learn quite a bit about them before actually rescuing them out of the shelter. Temperament Testers evaluate the shelter dog for us by going to the shelter and spending sometime with the specific dog(s). There is also a form that we send out that walks you through this process.

*If you are interested in Temperament Testing we have number of dogs in various shelters that need to be tested.

Home Checks

When we receive an adoption application for one of our rescue dogs, we interview the applicant, if approved-schedule a meet and greet and if both the dog and the applicant hit it off- we then set up a home check for the applicant. Home Checker help us determine if the potential forever home is a safe and loving environment for our foster dog. There is form we send you that walks you through the process of a home check, and home checks are scheduled based on yours and the applicant's availability

Donation Pick-Ups

We provide our foster dogs with everything they need while in foster care. That’s food, treats, shampoo, medical care, toys, beds, etc., and this gets very pricey very quickly! When companies or private parties make donations available for us, we would reach out to you to help us get the donation to our storage in West Hollywood.

Freedom Rides and Transports

We rescue dogs from shelters all over California. As a rescue, we can call a shelter and adopt a dog over the phone, but they do not transport, so a volunteer is needed to pick up the dog from the shelter. If you’re available for this let us know! Shelters in SoCal we rescue from are in the Los Angeles Area (ie San Pedro, Downey, Gardena, Simi Valley, San Gabriel Valley, Long Beach) San Diego and the Inland Empire!

Since they can’t drive, our dogs also need help getting to adoption events, vet appointments, meet and greets with potential adopters, etc.

Events

All of our adoption events are held at the West Hollywood Petco (508 N. Doheny Dr.) from 12-6pm. We'll need lots of help with transporting dogs to and from the event, setting up, giving treats and water to the pups, donations, walking dogs, break down, etc. Let me know if you're able to attend!

Upcoming Adoptions: 11/19, 12/3, 12/17 & 1/07

*Please note that these dates may change.

About Ace of Hearts

Location:

PO Box 11693 San Vicente Blvd #130, BEVERLY HILLS, CA 90213, US

Mission Statement

We are a 501c-3 dog rescue foundation dedicated to rescuing dogs, the day they are to be euthanized, from various Los Angeles shelters and placing them in loving homes. We do NOT take dogs in ... we rescue only from shelters. The Ace of Hearts Foundation is in memory of "Ace", a wonderful American Bull dog who was rescued from death, and touched the lives of many! (Especially founder Kari Whitman!) We rescue all breeds...and don't discriminate against any!

Description

Hello!

Love dogs? Looking to help out and make some new friends along the way?

We need Standby Volunteers daily!

Emergency Volunteers/Stand By's

This may seem like the least helpful, but actually our stand-by's always save us & the dogs! We need you!

You give us the days and times you are available and we add you to a list. Then, if something comes up that day- you will be the first one we call. This helps us reach out to volunteers with availability that day instead of calling our entire volunteer list. If there is a day, half a day, or even a few hours you can volunteer to be placed on a "call in case of an emergency" list, let us know! This can be for many different tasks, and almost

always requires some driving. We try very hard to plan things in advance, but if there is a last minute opportunity to save a life, get a dog adopted, or a foster emergency, it helps to have a handful of people we reach out to first!

We are in desperate need of standby volunteers!

Can't help with this but still want to volunteer? We can always use extra hands:

-Emergency fosters

-Long term fosters

-Temp tests for dogs in shelters

-Transporters (taking dogs to appointments/park/foster)

-Event volunteers

-House check volunteers
