Volunteer evening for Santa Skivvies Run

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: San Francisco AIDS Foundation

We will be holding a volunteer evening on Wednesday, November 2nd from 6pm to 8:30pm. We will be making calls to registered Santa Skivvies Run participants from last year to register them for this year’s event. This action is the one of the most important items for this event, and has a direct correlation with the success of Santa Skivvies Run. The more individuals who register, the more funds that are raised for the HIV prevention, care and support services of San Francisco AIDS Foundation. Also, there will be pizza.

You might have a few questions, there might be a few answers...

What is Santa Skivvies Run?

The Santa Skivvies Run is our annual festive fundraising run through the Castro. Everyone is welcome to participate: Naughty or nice, young or old, fresh-faced newbie or long-time Skivvies veteran. People dress up in festive costumes, or strip down to their undies to raise awareness and fight HIV/AIDS in our community. We are proud to partner with the Lookout to produce this spectacular event. You can learn more about the event on the event website.

Is this cold calling?

No, these calls are not cold calls. Each of the individuals you will be contacting are part of the Santa Skivvies Run family. They participated in the event at last year, and many of them have participated in the event for a number of years. They are likely very familiar with Santa Skivvies Run, and will know what you are referring to when you call them.

How many calls will I have to make?

Depending on the number of volunteers, we expect that each volunteer will need to make anywhere between 15-30 calls. Make it a group activity, and we’ll be done in no time!

How will I know what to say?

We will have a script prepared for you; we will briefly go over the script before we start calling, so everyone is comfortable with what to say. Also, staff will be there making calls with you, so if you have any questions, you can ask them!

This sounds boring, why should I come?

Well, for one thing, there’s pizza? (Did we say that already?) Also, we really need help with this. We are a small team of two, and need lots of help to make every piece of this event happen. Also, we are a fun and friendly team and we expect that you’ll meet other fun and friendly volunteers for good conversation and a good time!

We appreciate any help you can provide!

Mission Statement

The San Francisco AIDS Foundation was founded in 1982 in San Francisco's Castro district as an emergency response to a quickly emerging health crisis. Its primary purpose was simply to assemble and disseminate critical information to gay men who were being diagnosed with a rare and frightening cancer. Today, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation is firmly established as a global leader in the fight against AIDS. With an annual budget of $18 million, over 100 employees, 450 volunteers and 150,000 individuals served in 1998, the AIDS Foundation continues to face daunting challenges at every turn with compassion, dignity and a sense of purpose.

Description

Volunteers will be working onsite at Levi's Plaza to help SFAF in their efforts to keep their clients healthy. Converting bulk supplies to individual sizes is a never ending job that the SFAF relies heavily on volunteers for. Work will involve putting together snack packs as well as making-up small packs of both Vitamin C powder and cotton balls. All of these items will be handed out at mobile clinics that SFAF runs several times a week around San Francisco.
