MEP provides after-school one-on-one remedial tutoring, a summer program, and other activities to at-risk girls in 1st-12th grades from southwest Detroit and provides literacy, adult basic education, individualized GED preparation, and job skills training to women from low-income households in Detroit. All programs are designed to help women and girls overcome the stigma of earlier academic failure as they work toward short and long-term goals. A volunteer is needed as a program assistant for the girls program, tutor 1st- 12th grade girls, lead girls in structured activities, and provide support for program planning and documentation. Occasionally the volunteer will tutor in the women’s program.

While serving full-time for 1 year at this site, volunteers also commit to living a simple lifestyle in community with other volunteers and sharing their spirituality.

For more information and/or to receive an application, please contact Mercy Volunteer Corps at (215) 641-5535 or visit us on the web at http://www.MercyVolunteers.org.
