Relay For Life is the signature community fundraising event of the American Cancer Society. The event consists of teams of individuals who take turns walking around the track at Russell Street Elementary School for a full 12 hours (overnight) to raise money in the fight against cancer. The overnight hour journey is representative of the life of someone battling cancer. By walking through the night, we show how cancer never sleeps, and by coming together as a community, we show that there is always love and support around us for those who need it.
Each event is designed around three core tenets: celebrating survivors, remembering loved ones lost, and fighting back against the disease. The event is supposed to be fun and family friendly, but it also allows for times of reflection, grieving, and healing. Beyond that, Relay For Life is an experience; one that you won’t soon forget.
The Relay For Life of Littleton is seeking a volunteer to be a Community Champion to help with the planning of a successful 2017 Relay For Life.
Community champions are strong advocates for building the Relay For Life event within their communities. Individuals in this role are a voice and outward-facing champion for the Relay For Life event in their community. They are outgoing and willing to speak to groups and individuals about the Relay For Life program, with the goal of bringing more exposure, people, and fundraising to the event. This can be in the form of new teams, survivors, caregivers, or individuals. They are strong advocates for the Relay For Life movement within their community using their networks to bring more awareness to the event. The Relay For Life of Littleton is organized by a great group of high school leaders. We are seeking an adult volunteer to fill this role!

Mission Statement
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
Description
The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of 2.5 million volunteers saving lives and fighting for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. As the largest voluntary health organization, the Society's efforts have contributed to a 22 percent decline in cancer death rates in the US during the past two decades, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. Thanks in part to our progress nearly 14.5 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will celebrate more birthdays this year. We're determined to finish the fight against cancer. As the nation's largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, we're finding cures and ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more. For more information, to get help, or to join the fight, visit cancer.org or call us anytime, day or night, at 1-800-227-2345.
