Tree planting

Join us for our first ever West Side fruit orchard planting with The Other Way Ministries!

Have you ever wanted to know what it takes to grow healthy fruit in the city?

The Urban Forest Project empowers individuals to lead orchard activities in their neighborhood, from pruning to planting. The orchards that we establish and maintain throughout Grand Rapids are important community resources. Not only do fruit trees benefit the local ecosystem and urban canopy, but they also play an important role in supplying fresh fruit to our City’s pantries!

Congratulations THE OTHER WAY MINISTRIES on being awarded a fall 2016 Urban Forest Project mini-grant! Good luck on your community orchard planting throughout your locations on the west side! Project lead is Cheri McClain-Beatty and to volunteer for this event please contact Cheri by email at cmcclain-beatty@theotherway.org

Mission Statement

Empowering people to cultivate vibrant parks, green spaces, and trees in our community.

Description

The mission of Friends of Grand Rapids Parks is to empower people to cultivate vibrant parks, trees, and green spaces in the Grand Rapids community. Our vision is thriving parks and a sustainable urban forest that actively supports our community’s economic, environmental, and cultural health. Our organization was founded in 2008, with the belief that all kids in our community are entitled to experiences in parks and opportunities to connect with nature. For some children in our community, their neighborhood park is their backyard; a place to discover their hidden talents and a place to build confidence in trying new things.
