Mission Statement

The mission of Dancing for Diabetes is to spread awareness using the art of dance to better educate the community, raise funds to find a cure, and inspire those with diabetes to live healthy and active lives.

Description

Diagnosed with type 1diabetes at the age of 10, Elizabeth Stein was determined to not let the disease negatively impact her life. In 2000 Elizabeth created an annual benefit show in order to raise funds for research, "Dancing for Diabetes." Although it began as a neighborhood fundraiser, Dancing for Diabetes’ annual show has grown to involve thousands in the central Florida community. Each year over 300 performers of the area’s top local talent come together to perform for a sold-out audience of over 800, who leave not only entertained and inspired, but also more educated about diabetes.

Since 2013 the organization has raised over 100,000 dollars towards diabetes research and inspired thousands of the central Florida community each year with an evening of entertainment and hope. Dancing for Diabetes provides hundreds of young type 1 diabetics free dance classes and workshops, while fostering creativity, self-expression, and physical activity. Through videos and PSAs, Dancing for Diabetes works to increase awareness in the community and to dispel myths and misconceptions about the disease. In addition, the organization hosts events open to the general public that bring together a community, while raising more awareness about diabetes. Until a cure is found, this organization is passionately committed to the fight against diabetes.
