Donation Processing and Customer Assistance:
- Have fun, get some exercise and do good!!
- Volunteers work alongside staff and partner-families members preparing donations for resale and assisting customers
- We welcome volunteers Tuesday through Saturday, mornings or afternoons
- Volunteers typically work one 4 hour shift a week
The ReStore acts as a fundraiser for all of the programming that the affiliate does. We sell new and used building materials, appliances, and furniture. All items have been donated. The sale of those donations, minus our operation costs, help to build 2-3 homes a year with families in need!
As with the worksite, so much of the work done here at the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland ReStore is accomplished through the hard work of our great volunteers. Volunteers work alongside staff and partner family members in the processing, pricing , and placement of donations. As well, there are often opportunities to work on small projects and/or participate in deconstruction projects (optional). At the ReStore we typically take volunteers for one three and half hour shift a week either from 9am until 12:30pm, or 1pm until 4:30pm.
No volunteers under the age of 16. Minors will need an emailable Waiver form filled out in full by a parent/guardian prior to volunteering with us. Apologies, no court-mandated hours.
Wear clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty. Closed toed shoes are a must.
If you have any questions feel free to reach out to the Volunteer Coordinator at kelcy@habitatme.org
Our Mission and History:
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland is a homeownership program. Founded in 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland, is committed to the development and uplifting of families and communities, not only to the construction of houses. Geographically, we initially served 11 towns/cities surrounding and including Portland, we now serve the 28 communities in the greater Portland area. In three decades, we’ve built 68 homes, served more than two hundred people with stable, affordable housing, engaged hundreds of business and civic partners, and enlisted the support of thousands of volunteers.

Mission Statement
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland mission is to eliminate poverty housing in the Greater Portland area . Habitat for Humanity is a people-to-people partnership, drawing prospective Habitat families and comĀmunities together with volunteers and resources to build decent, affordable housing for families whose income is above public housing guidelines and who are unable to qualify for conventional mortgages. Qualified families are given a "hand up", not a hand out, paying a monthly no-interest mortgage to Habitat. These monies, in turn, go back into building more simple, decent, affordable homes. Habitat is committed to the development and uplifting of families and communities, not only to the construction of houses.
