Ms. Mattie Freeland dedicated 50 years of her life to holding the English Avenue community of Atlanta, Georgia together. Despite stories perpetuating an image of a desolate area in the shadows of Atlanta, the English Avenue community has worked hard to keep Ms. Mattie’s light of hope and opportunity ignited. In 2008, the community transformed this neighborhood corner into a community garden that is now under review to become one of Atlanta’s newest park additions. Local residents preserve this garden to continue Ms. Mattie’s legacy, now you too have the opportunity to help.

On October 22, 2016 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm, EarthShare of Georgia, Park Pride, and The Conservation Fund have teamed together for the 2nd Annual Fall Volunteer Day. Volunteers will have the opportunity to:

  • Plant small shrubberies and flowers
  • Remove large plant beds
  • Restore the area surrounding the community playground
  • Connect with local members of the community
  • Clean-up around Ms. Mattie Freeland’s house
  • And much more!

Refreshments and tools will provided. Register now to make a difference in the English Avenue community. Children 12 and under must be supervised by an adult.
