The New York Asian Women's Center (NYAWC) provides culture and language responsive services to Asian survivors of domestic and sexual violence, human trafficking, and elder abuse.
Purpose/Overview: The Development Volunteer supports the Development Department through donation processing, document preparation, as well as administrative and fundraising assistance. Depending on the volunteer's time availability, skill set, and interests, other projects may be offered, such as assistance with grant and newsletter writing, events, and prospect research.
Benefits: Volunteer will gain insight into the various facets of Development, including donor stewardship, fundraising, and grant solicitation. There may also be opportunities to network, social opportunities, and discounts to events as available to all NYAWC volunteers.
Schedule: 1-2 days a week, with a total of at least 8 hours per week. Schedule to be agreed upon at start of volunteer position. Position will begin with a two-week trial period before signing volunteer agreement.
Core Competencies & Qualifications: Volunteer must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; prior experience and/or comfort with database management is preferred. She/he/they should enjoy working independently, taking initiative, and have a willingness to learn.
Training Requirements: Volunteer will be required to attend a NYAWC volunteer orientation run by the Manager of Volunteer Engagement. Orientation may be completed after the start of the volunteer position.
Support/Continuing Education Plan: The Development Associate will provide day-to-day on-site training as needed, with opportunities to receive further training, also as needed and desired.

Description
Womankind brings critical resources and deep cultural competency to help survivors of all ages find refuge, recovery, and renewal from domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual violence. Through our programs, we offer a wide variety of services in 18+ Asian languages and dialects, including: a toll-free 24/7 multilingual helpline, safe and confidential emergency housing, culturally-informed counseling, family law and immigration legal assistance, wellness activities, creative arts therapy, support groups, and economic empowerment workshops. We are an expert in serving Asian communities, yet our services are valuable and available to all. Whether in our services or in our increasing advocacy and policy work, Womankind first centers the survivor by uplifting them to control their own lives and narratives.
