They Served Our Country Now We Need to Serve Them!
The AseraCare Hospice Veteran-to-Veteran Program, aims to pair veteran patients with veteran volunteers, who have military experience. Veteran Volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with each patient thereby creating an environment where life review and healing may occur.
Families of veterans or those who are not considered "Veterans" may also have a strong desire to become volunteers who support Veterans at the end-of-life. The non-Veteran volunteers include individuals who have had family members serve, those employed by an organization that serves Veterans, those who easily identify that Veterans are underserved, and those who are committed to not letting Veterans die alone.
What is the importance of Veteran Volunteers?
-Volunteers are essential to the delivery of quality hospice care.
-Veterans are a part of distinct culture with their own common language and experience.
-When Veterans interact, their common language and experience can form a strong relational bond.
-The camaraderie created between Veterans has proven to be supportive for all involved.
What can Veteran Volunteers do?
-Assist in reminiscing/telling life stories.
-Educate and assist patients in receiving Veteran Benefits.
-Take part in pinning ceremonies or distribute certificates for Veterans Day and other recognition events.
-Assist in replacing lost medals.

AseraCare is a hospice agency that provides care to patient in the end stages of life. We serve patients in their own homes, nursing homes, or assisted living facilities.
We focus on serving the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of our team, patients and families with a sense of compassion, urgency and customer service. AseraCare is passionate about creating a culture that is dedicated to the alleviation of human suffering which finds expression through the ongoing gentle acts of kindness, sympath and compassion. Volunteers at AseraCare will be a friend in someone's end of life journey to ensure they are comfortable.
AseraCare Hospice volunteers enhance quality of life and reduce the burden of caregiving by providing dirrerent types of support to patients and families. Companions, pet therapy, music volunteers, Reiki Practitioners, Massage therapists, and more visit our patients on a regular basis. If you wish to share your heart and help a terminally ill patient in any way you can contact our Volunteer Coordinator to learn about our exciting new opportunities!
