These opportunities exist all over the Triangle Area. In this program, mentors are matched with a Little Brother or Sister and meet at the child's school for one hour each week during the school year. You will get to know each other, play games, work on homework, go to library, use gym, eat lunch together, and do other activities provided by BBBS of the Triangle. The commitment is for the school year and the Big must commit to meet with the Little at an agreed upon time for an hour each week, and for a term of one calendar year. Please contact us to see about opportunities near your place of employment.

*In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic, BBBS of the Triangle has transitioned all enrollment and service delivery aspects to a virtual platform. All enrollment, matching and match interactions are virtual until further notice.

Mission Statement

Changing perspectives. Changing lives. Vision: All children achieve success in life. Mission: Create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.

Description

All youth have the ability to do BIG things. That is why Big Brothers Big Sisters of Triangle (BBBST) ignites the potential within every child and advocates for them to explore the endless possibilities of what they can accomplish. There are an estimated 42,454 children living at or below the federal poverty level in Wake, Durham and Orange Counties. 64% of these children live in a single parent home. Although these youth may experience obstacles on a regular basis, they do not lack the ability to overcome those obstacles and reach their full potential.

For more than 20 years, BBBST has been Eastern North Carolina’s premier mentoring organization, defending the potential of future leaders in the community by matching at-risk youth (Littles) with committed adult mentors (Bigs). These relationships - strategically matched based on Littles’ needs and Bigs’ backgrounds and skills, as well as common interests, aspirations, and personalities - empower Littles to achieve success in life and become productive members of the community.
