Opportunity:
Tiny Toes Rat Rescue of New Mexico is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue and needs volunteers to help with our holiday fundraiser this coming December at the westside location of Barnes and Noble.
Description:
Gift wrap customer purchases (mainly books) for donations. Basic gift wrapping skills are all you need, but the neater and nicer you can gift wrap the larger the donation tends to be. The store provides paper that is easily torn off large dispensers. We provide bows and ribbon and will show you how easy it is to put on. You don't have to know how to make bows.
Requirement:
We and Barnes & Noble must have your solid commitment to work the full shift (3 to 4 hours) you sign up for and arrive 15 minutes prior to the start time of your shift. Barnes and Noble has told us that if our volunteers are late or don't show up then our organization will have all remaining scheduled dates cancelled and given to another organization; and, we'll not be invited back in the future. So, the success of us being able to raise money to replenish our veterinary and support fund literally depends on you be fully committed to this project. Please don't jeopardize our ability to raise money. Thank you.

Mission Statement
We partner with statewide animal shelters that do take rats and strive to respond to their call for assistance within 24 hours. We also accept rats from the public, but can only do so as we have space available and the financial resources to care for them. It's extremely challenging to meet the needs for rat rescue.
Description
Tiny Toes Rat Rescue of New Mexico, a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue, was formed in 2010 because there were no rat rescues in the state of New Mexico. Today, we're still the only New Mexico rat rescue. Because New Mexico has a very high poverty level and ranks among the highest (among all 50 states) for animal abuse there are far less animal rescues in New Mexico than in other states, and most are privately funded. Private funding can support some animal rescues, but not animal rescues that specialize in rats - an animal that is misunderstood, the subject of many myths, and considered to be disposable. Sadly, even some New Mexico animal shelters consider rats to be disposable. Some shelters don't accept rats at all and some of those that do often euthanize them shortly after intake.
