It is with great excitement that American Councils for International Education announces our 6th Annual Silent Auction and Open House, to be held Thursday, September 29, 2016. We invite you to join the fun!
American Councils, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC, sponsors and administers student and professional exchanges in over 80 countries spanning five continents. Since 1974, we have supported over 55,000 participants and provided our exceptional students with access to unique educational and study-abroad opportunities worldwide. Our deserving and talented students attend local schools, live with local host families, and achieve high levels of language proficiency; experiences and skills in high demand in today’s global workplace.
The Silent Auction is our exciting annual open-house fundraiser, complete with international entertainment and refreshments, that aims to raise awareness about the places where we work and the myriad of scholarship opportunities we have available. During the event, guests spend the evening networking with other internationally minded Washington-area professionals while supporting international exchange. This year, we have the special participation of four embassies representing the Balkan region. Guests will include diplomatic officials and diaspora communities from Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Macedonia, among other countries in Southeast Europe, that are based in the DC area.
We currently need 40 volunteers to assist with set-up and logistics during the evening of the 29th. Each volunteer will work two hour-long shifts. In return for your hard work, you’ll receive complimentary admission to the Silent Auction and are welcome to enjoy the food, drinks, and entertainment. There will be a required training session (date TBD) prior to the day of the event.
To volunteer, email Pam Levy at plevy@americancouncils.org, and she will get back to you with more details.
Below are some of the volunteer job descriptions:
Set-Up: As a team, set up furniture for the Silent Auction before the event. Two people will be chosen to set up food and signage around the rooms.
Food Distributor: Distribute passed appetizers to attendees at regular intervals. One person will be in charge of the dessert room and ensure it is clean and fully stocked.
Floater: Encourage people to bid. Keep an eye on fragile items. Help other volunteers and staff with small tasks as needed. At the end of the evening, direct guests to the exits and assist guests in the elevators. Answer questions about the event over the course of the evening.
Area Clean-Up: Ensure that areas are clear of trash by emptying trash bins at regular intervals.
Drink Tickets: Sell drink tickets. Process cash and credit card payments.
Food Monitor & Tidier: Watch food platters and replenish if running low. Remove trash from food areas.
Registration: Greet attendees as they enter the building. Answer questions about the event, ensure all guests are checked in, and direct them to the right place. Accept cash, credit card, and check payments for tickets at the door.
Clean-Up: Clean up after the event by storing supplies, storing furniture, and removing trash.
