Biotech Symposium
A few of our students at the inaugural Biotech Symposium.

Who you are: A professional in a science-related career or a non-science professional working in a science-related organization or company.

Who we are: Carlmont High School’s Biotechnology Institute, a small learning community for 50 science-minded 10th-grade students.

Where we are: In Belmont, 22 miles south of San Francisco. This event will be held in person.

How you can contribute: We are looking for several speakers to give one hour filled with 25-minute roundtable presentations to rotating groups of 4-5 students at our winter symposium. Presentation 1 (15 minutes): Your career, educational background, brief job description, and the pros & cons of your field.

Date and time we need volunteers: Tuesday, October 3, 2023. 25-minute roundtable presentations on careers will take place between 9:30 and 10:30. If you are interested but unavailable in October, there will be other opportunities such as this, so we would love to get your contact information.

Mission Statement

To provide skills and knowledge required for the biotechnology industry, developing a post-secondary plan for entry into STEM fields both in college and career.

Description

The Carlmont High School Biotech Institute is a small learning community with a focus on biotechnology education and experience. This unique program allows students to engage in workplace learning with cross-curricular projects to investigate real-world problems. The curriculum includes classes in English and Social Studies from a perspective of science and technology as well as laboratory skills in our state of the art classrooms, to prepare students to study biotechnology or other sciences in college.

We work closely with professionals in the biotech industry to expose students to the myriad of opportunities in this growing and exciting field.
