Creative Opportunity: PopUp Retail Sales Internship - non paid

Organization: Queens Economic Development Corp , (QEDC) a non-profit located in Kew Gardens, NY. Our mission is to provide broader access to economic opportunity for all residents of Queens County. Our organization has been active since 1977 with the mission to provide Queens residents and resident businesses broader access to economic resources in order to cultivate multiple commercial, residential and cultural centers in the borough.


Project Description: The MadeInQueens.NYC store (MiQ) is a new project of the QEDC featuring an array of artisanal, craft, and design goods, home accessories and packaged food items. MiQ showcases Queens and New York based manufacturers, producers, entrepreneurs, artisans and local partners. The project will run from June 2016 until April 2017. This is an exciting opportunity for you to be part of a fun new Queens based project. MiQ's mission is to sell small batch, originally manufactured local products. The goal is to promote local makers and manufacturers, share their stories, and provide an opportunity for new and existing local businesses to grow and flourish.


Position Description: The PopUp Retail Intern role is a fun opportunity for a results oriented individual. We are currenlty looking to beef-up our Sales & Marketing efforts.

Main tasks include:

Discovery - Help us find local manufacturers across New York State. Yes the made in Queens store also features manufacturers from all over New Your City and New York State and we need your help to find them.

Outreach & Relationship building - Help us reach out to entrepreneurs, business owners, makers and convey the value of participating in the Made in Queens retail pop up project.

Daily Operations - Help us to tackle all store tasks as needed.

We’d love to hear from you, please apply and help us to continue introducing new manufacturers to the Queens Community.

Responsibilities: Interact professionally with all stakeholders. Be able to lift and move 50lbs. Learn about Queens manufacturers and their products. Portray a positive and welcoming customer service demeanor at all times. Own the responsibility of making the Made in Queens brand a success. You should be comfortable with spreadsheets, word documents, google drive, google email, social media marketing. We use lots of fun technology tools and we’re happy to teach the right candidate how to use these. Prior experience working in a retail sales capacity is a plus. Must have excellent communication skills and relate in an engaging, dynamic way with all stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. Must be able to clearly describe value to stakeholders and carry tasks through to completion. Interviews will be scheduled on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
