Friendly ambassadors needed to greet visitors to Job Carr's cozy cabin. Engage guests in learning about the Oregon Trail and life on the frontier. Help children, families, seniors and tourists to step back in Tacoma history during their visit to this replica pioneer home.

No need to know local history, we'll give you the tools to succeed! We welcome volunteers of all ages, interests and skill levels. Training and reference materials are provided. You will also have opportunities to assist with a variety of tasks, suited to your skills and interests, that help keep the museum running.

The museum is open W-Sat afternoons and is the visitor center for Old Town, Tacoma. All volunteers must complete a volunteer application form and successfully pass a security background check. http://www.jobcarrmuseum.org

We welcome volunteers of all ages, interests and skill levels.

  • Teens (15-17) may volunteer with permission from a parent/guardian.
  • Adolescents (10-14) may volunteer if a parent/guardian remains on-site at the Museum to supervise them directly.

Through diverse perspectives and interactive experiences, the Museum uses Job Carr's story to open the door to Tacoma's history for students and our community.

Description

The Job Carr Cabin Museum is a replica of Job Carr's log cabin, originally built in 1864/65, as the first permanent non-native residence in Tacoma. The Museum houses interpretive historical displays and artifacts from Tacoma's early days. Educational history programs and tours are provided for school children, educators, history buffs, community residents and visitors to our city.
