A Financial Literacy Mentor provides individualized education and coaching to help families set and achieve financial goals critical to greater stability and self-sufficiency. Mentors will help families: organize financial and other necessary documents, educate mentees on file management techniques, track daily spending, complete monthly spending plans, work with case manager to access/encourage enrollment in employer benefits, guide through debt-repayment process, assist mentees to change spending habits, and collaborate with case manager on specific financial needs. A successful mentoring relationship will help mentees decrease their debt, increase their savings and credit score, and gain control of their financial well-being.

About Cornerstones

Location:

11150 Sunset Hills Road, Suite 210, Reston, VA 20190, US

Mission Statement

Cornerstones is a nonprofit organization that promotes self-sufficiency by providing support and advocacy for those in need of food, shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare, and other human services. We remain firmly rooted in the Reston community and embrace founder Robert E. Simon’s principle of inclusivity. We apply this value - that all may "live, work, play and serve" - in the many communities where we now operate.

Description

Cornerstones helps individuals and families survive tough economic times in an already high cost-of-living community. Through advocacy and support services, we connect our clients to the vital resources they need to build more self-sufficient lives. Our success comes from a comprehensive array of programs, wrap-around services that solve urgent or on-going requirements for housing, childcare, food or financial assistance all with the goal to sustain healthy families, secure housing, and financial independence.
