ORGANIZATION: The Laurel Foundation

The Laurel Foundation is dedicated to providing year-round educational camp programs (free of charge) to children, ages 6-17, living with HIV/AIDS. Camp Laurel (August 19 - 24) enables children living with HIV/AIDS to experience the magic and wonders of childhood free from the stresses of their daily lives.

Medical Staff volunteers are the lifelines of the Laurel Foundation! Without our dedicated volunteer counselors Camp Laurel would not be the success it is today. This is a unique opportunity to touch the lives of these kids in an unforgettable way. It is also an unforgettable experience for all of our volunteers- you might find yourself dancing at the camp talent show or competing in the Wacky Olympics!

Volunteers must be a LVN, RN, PA, NP, or MD with current California medical license, be comfortable working with adults and children with HIV/AIDS, have good judgment and lots of energy.

Mission Statement

Committed to improving the lives of children living with HIV and AIDS, we believe that every child has the right to experience the wonder of childhood. Through our programs we strive to contribute to the development of each child’s self esteem, self-awareness and self-fulfillment. The mission of The Laurel Foundation is to empower children, youth and families affected by HIV/AIDS through educational and support programs in a safe and trusting environment. While HIV/AIDS is often an isolating illness because of negative social stigma and the sickness or loss of a parent, The Laurel Foundation aims to eradicate this isolation through a comprehensive approach, including residential camps, mentorship, life enhancement workshops, ongoing support programs and collaborative partnerships.
