Heartland Hospice believes that no one should die alone and we need caring and passionate volunteers to help us achieve this mission. Vigil volunteers are called when a patient is showing signs of symptoms of dying within hours to days.
We provide comprehensive training, shadowing, tools, and ongoing support to our vigil volunteers. And, we are taking every precaution to keep our volunteers safe, including providing PPE and monitoring all patients, staff and volunteers for symptoms of Covid-19.
Vigil volunteers should be willing to:
- Commit to an 8 hour shift.
- Commit to a schedule. This can be once a month, once a week, or more.
- Travel wherever there is a need. (We cover all of Central Indiana).
- Participate in continuing education and meetings 2-3 times throughout the year.
- Be 18 year of age or older.
- Submit to criminal background check and TB screening.
- Comply with infection control policies and procedures.
- Complete our 16-hour training course.
Please respond to this post and our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you with more information about how to get started.
