Invasive Species Week Volunteers 2014

Theodore Roosevelt, considered the conservationist president, created the USFS, 150 national forests, 51 federal bird reserves, 4 national game preserves, 5 national parks and 18 national monuments. During his presidency, he protected 230 million acres of public land. Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, Roosevelt’s home from 1885 until his death in 1919, receives over 60K visitors each year. With 83 acres of woodland, meadow, marsh and beach it is a beautiful place to discover nature. As is happening all over the north shore, nonnative invasive species have reared their ugly heads at this beautiful site!

Join Huntington-Oyster Bay Audubon today as we work to remove these species from the meadow at Sagamore Hill. Volunteers will learn about nonnative invasive plants and why they are so detrimental to our ecosystems as well as the efforts that HOBAS is making to combat this issue. Participants will have a chance to check out our new demonstration garden, which contains just over 150 native plants!

Participants will be treated to a free house tour of Roosevelt's home!!!!

Bring garden gloves and insect repellent if you have them, extras will be provided to the volunteers as will tasty snacks and water.

Registration is an absolute must. Please register by July 14.
