About the Position:
The Washington Reading Corps is a national service program that is actively engaged in improving literacy in communities, local schools and learning centers throughout the state. As a Washington Reading Corp Member you will be assisting ESD 112’s 1-2-3 Grown & Learn Program, Early Childhood Educational Assistance Program (ECEAP) and Southwest Washington Child Care Consortium (SWCCC) centers in the early literacy development of 3, 4, and 5 year olds.
Assignment/Benefits:
- Hours: 40 hrs/wk, Monday through Friday, Approx 8:00am - 5:00pm
- Length of term: This is a 10 ½ month commitment, with 1700 hours served September 2016-August 2017
- Pay: $1,195 monthly living stipend (pre-tax); $5,775 education award upon completion of 1,700 service hours
- Benefits: Basic Health Plan available for member, paid mileage, loan forbearance and subsidized child care if eligible
Minimum Qualifications:
- Be an AmeriCorps member
- At least 18 years of age (17 with written consent of legal guardian)
- HS Diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- AA Degree or some college
- Experience with MS Office
- Experience with young children (ages 0-5)
- Bilingual Spanish/English
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Evening or weekend service outside of scheduled hours may be required
Employment Requirements:
- US citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien
- Ability to pass required criminal background checks
- Ability to take and pass Tuberculosis test
