The Director of Marketing oversees all GeekGirlCon marketing efforts - press relations, GeekGirlCon.com, online media, offline media, design, copy, and merchandising - and the marketing team. The Director of Marketing promotes and encourages excitement and buzz about GeekGirlCon, communicating with the Marketing team, other GeekGirlCon staff, and the public. The Director of Marketing is ultimately responsible for all marketing efforts. Reports to Executive Director.

Duties
  • Develops and continues to evolve GeekGirlCon’s brand and branding guidelines.
  • Makes sure that all marketing efforts and collateral aligns with GeekGirlCon’s brand statement and branding guides.
  • Develops the marketing schedule.
  • Keeps the marketing budget.
  • Evaluates and reports back both the successes and failures of GeekGirlCon’s marketing and makes adjustments accordingly.
  • Runs marketing meetings.
  • Conducts yearly reviews of all Marketing staff.
  • Responsible for overseeing all team growth from new hires to identifying needs to providing opportunities for growth of skills.
  • Can within reason fill in for open positions or staffers on leave in the marketing department.
  • Is a public face of GeekGirlCon.
  • Serve as part of GeekGirlCon’s executive team in making sure that day-to-day goals are being met and long-term plans/visions put in place by the Board are continued.
Qualifications
  • A generalist-specialist in marketing with a broad range of marketing knowledge and experience ranging from print, inbound web marketing, social media, and public relations.
  • Experience running a team.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and implement changes in marketing based on both trends and the needs of GeekGirlCon’s audience.
  • Ability to foster the Marketing team’s goals and provide developmental direction as needed.
  • Ability to work closely with all other departments to make sure that GeekGirlCon’s marketing efforts support everyone and every public-facing project.
  • Must be comfortable speaking at staff and business meetings, to the public, and in front of a crowd as a representative of GeekGirlCon.
What It Means to Volunteer as GeekGirlCon Staff
  • Minimum commitment to this volunteer position is two Convention cycles
  • With the exception of the Executive Director, GeekGirlCon staff positions are all volunteer, non-paid positions.
  • Attendance in person at monthly staff and departmental meetings is required.
  • Most work and design meetings are conducted over email or Skype.
  • Volunteering during the con is encouraged but not mandatory.
  • The staff is a team of highly dedicated, geeky, and passionate volunteers; it’s a lot of hard work, but an amazing experience with lots of opportunity to help build GeekGirlCon for the future.
