Volunteer with One Brick at Boston Landmarks Orch Concert

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: One Brick Boston

  • 1 person is interested

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

Free orchestra performance right on the Charles River! A staple of summer in Boston. In this concert, a landmark Broadway musical from the swing era is reborn on the Esplanade. The Boys from Syracuse, based on Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, is often considered the finest of all Rodgers and Hart creations. Familiar songs include 'Falling in Love with Love,’ 'Sing for Your Supper,’ and 'This Can’t Be Love.’ This 'concert performance with dancing’ marks only the 2nd professional performance of the inimitable big-band style original 1938 orchestrations. It is sure to be a good time!

WHAT WE'LL BE DOING:

Volunteers will have the following roles at this event:

Ushers: distribute programs and help count the number of concert attendees

Surveyors: conduct surveys to determine who attends our concerts

Ambassadors: assist people with disabilities and the elderly as they arrive and depart

Runners: help at our Information Tent with chair rentals and other tasks as needed

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:

This is an outdoor event, so please dress accordingly. You are going to have a terrific time. The nonprofit will make sure that plenty of water and snacks are available to you throughout the evening. Their one absolute request is that Volunteers stay hydrated! :)

Note: The Boston Landmarks Orchestra would be happy to accommodate volunteers with disabilities. Volunteers have a wide range of responsibilities, from program distribution, or audience surveying, to directly helping our patrons by assisting at our Information Tent. Being outdoors there may at times be mobility challenges on the lawn, but any Volunteer with the desire to participate on the Orchestra's Volunteer Staff is guaranteed an important place on the team.

WHERE TO MEET:

Volunteers are asked to arrive at 6:00pm at Boston Landmarks Orchestra Information Tent, DCR Hatch Memorial Shell. Upon arrival please check in with the One Brick Event Manager. The concert will begin at 7pm.

BOSTON LANDMARKS ORCHESTRA:

The Boston Landmarks Orchestra was founded in 2001 by the late Charles Ansbacher as an extension of his desire to make the arts a significant part of peoples lives, regardless of their wealth or education. In its earliest years, the orchestra performed in such historically important settings as Fenway Park, the USS CONSTITUTION pier, Jamaica Pond, Franklin Park, Copley Square, Boston Common, and other landmark locations. Since 2007, its principal home has been at the DCRs Hatch Memorial Shell. The orchestra has also embarked on collaborations with other organizations, including the Conservatory Lab Charter School, Boston Lyric Opera, the Museum of African American History, and a host of others. Music students from area schools, including Berklee College of Music, the Longy School of Music of Bard College, and the New England Conservatory of Music, join in these outreach efforts.

Mission Statement

One Brick provides support to local non-profit and community organizations by creating a unique, social and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. We enable people to get involved, have an impact and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments.

Description

Headquartered in San Francisco, California, One Brick is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that brings volunteers together to support other local non-profits by adopting an innovative twist to the volunteer experience: we create a friendly and social atmosphere around volunteering, and after each volunteer event -- which typically lasts only 3 to 4 hours -- we invite volunteers to gather at a local restaurant or caf where they can get to know one another in a relaxed social setting.

Our 'commitment-free volunteering' allows you to choose when you volunteer, rather than having to make commitments for a certain number of volunteer hours, or agree to be available every week at a specific time.
