Do you love learning about plants and record keeping? This volunteer job at Mercer Botanic Center (MBC) involves learning about the following:
1) New plants received for the display garden and research collections
2) New seeds received for the Center for Plant Conservation National Collection of Endangered Plants seed bank
3) New plant specimens received for the MBC Herbarium (dried plant reference collection).
Training will be provided for application of BG-BASE; a database designed to manage information for biological collections by botanic gardens, arboreta, herbaria, zoos, universities, and similar institutions.
Duties: Volunteer Assistant Curators enter botanical information into MBC’s collections database. MBC botanists then use the data for MBC’s botanical information signs, inventories, herbarium specimen labels, and research and collaboration with local, state, national and international partners.
Please contact the Mercer Volunteer Coordinator at 713-274-4160 for more information.
