YouthBuild Austin is a program at American YouthWorks that is committed to providing young people with the tools to succeed. We make every effort to create a supportive environment for active learning.

Our students are between the ages of 16 and 24 and are studying to receive their high school diploma or GED. Our curriculum is self-paced which means students are learning different subjects at the same time.

As a volunteer, you are expected to model appropriate tutor behavior such as punctuality, respect for others and a commitment to academics. Among your rewards will be a sense of pride in helping students accomplishes their educational goals.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Demonstrates knowledge and competence in the subject matter;
• Be able to explain concepts to others effectively;
• Effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success;
• Work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds;
• Possess good organizational skills;
• Ability to complete paperwork in a timely manner;
• Exhibit patience and positive attitudes when establishing a one-on-one learning environment;

Tutoring Subjects:

Math (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geomerty,& Pre-Cal)

Science (Biology, Chemistry, & Physics)

English

Social Studies
