Remove invasive species at Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific Natural Area

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Friends of the Mississippi River

Join Friends of the Mississippi River Thursday, July 28st, 6 to 8 p.m. to help protect Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific & Natural Area(SNA), an award-winning restoration site known for some of the best views of the Upper Mississippi River.

Volunteers will remove spotted knapweed and hoary allysum, two invasive species encroaching on the native prairie. Minnesota's native bees and local wildlife depend on this rare habitat. Plus, with their deeper root systems, the native prairie plants better control erosion and filter pollution that would otherwise run down the Pine Bend Bluffs into the Mississippi River below.

To ensure a high quality experience, capacity is limited and preregistration required. For more information, including how to register, please visit visit: http://fmr.org/events/2016/07/21/remove-invasive-species-pine-bend-bluffs-sna

Mission Statement

Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) engages people to protect, restore and enhance the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities region.

Description

Friends of the Mississippi River is proud to work with roughly 3,000 volunteers annually.

We keep volunteering simple, fun and satisfying -- there are no applications, and you can sign up for one event or several. We list events especially in need of volunteers here on VolunteerMatch.com, but maintain a full calendar of 60+ events a year at www.fmr.org/events.

Our project work includes conservation and restoration of natural areas and habitat, education on watershed protection issues, and organizing activities that connect the public to the Mississippi River.
