Position Duties:

Work with various software systems to create and maintain databases that can be combined with maps or geographically referenced data. The GIS Mapping Specialist with utilize GIS software to create information for reference by the health department based on geographic information. This includes health problems by region, city, and zip code. The GIS Mapping Specialist will conduct any needed research and obtain any needed files and records to complete this task. The Specialist will also help the Department in analyzing geographic health trends.

Qualifications:

Prior experience with GIS software is required. Experience with databases, mapping, and research is required. Understanding of health problems, public health practice, and prevention methods is preferred. Knowledge of geography is required, specific experience with the geography of Lake County is helpful but not required. This position would be good for a retired GIS professional, current GIS student, or a current GIS professional looking to apply their skills in a new field.

Training:

Training on department policies and procedures is required. Volunteers must complete orientation and IT security training. Background checks are required. Some training on various job aspects may be available as required.
