ORGANIZATION: Library For All

Perhaps you just made a successful exit from your tech company, and are looking for a way to make a social impact? Perhaps you are a professional software engineer looking to switch industries and learn more about the social impact space? Or perhaps you have a flexible schedule and can carve out some time every week from your other commitments to give back?

Whatever the reason, if you are looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity to lead a small talented tech team, be a valued thought partner in a supportive work environment, and change the world - look no further! We are an innovative non-profit organization with a vision of a world where everyone has access to knowledge. The technology we have developed is in high demand by schools and organizations across the developing world and we are passionate about achieving our mission. You will be in on the ground floor as our organization grows in 2016 to deepen our impact in our five program countries in Asia and Africa, whilst exploring new opportunities for expansion across the globe.

We are very experienced working with volunteers (we currently have a volunteer CFO!), and seek to make it a mutually beneficial arrangement so that we make the best use of your time. We are seeking an experienced technology professional to lead our team of two outstanding developers, and help us develop a talent pipeline of volunteers to increase our velocity. With support from a Technology Advisory Board, you will shape the product roadmap, whilst getting stuck in with the code where needed. For the right person, this is an exciting opportunity to be part of the leadership team of a tech-focused international development organization.

Role and Responsibilities

(In order of priority)

  • Collaborate with founders, users and other stakeholders to develop the product roadmap
  • Implement a transparent project management system to effectively guide and manage our small team of developers, as well as external volunteers
  • Get stuck in with the development work as needed
  • Assess our technology stack and use your knowledge of existing and upcoming technology products to help us make key strategic decisions about where to take the product
  • Communicate Library For All's technology strategy to internal and external stakeholders
  • Improve overall quality of product by establishing QA and testing protocols

Mission Statement

Library For All is committed to unlocking knowledge and opportunities for those in developing countries with limited access to educational materials.

Description

We are taking on this mission with our cloud-based library of ebooks. In areas where books are scarce but the mobile networks are growing, our digital platform provides access to critical educational materials. It is optimized for low-broadband environments, easy to use, and will ultimately be device agnostic - and is significantly more cost effective and sustainable than building and maintaining physical libraries. Our content is curated for each site with partners on the ground to meet their specific, educational and cultural needs in the local languages. We have programs in Haiti and the Democratic Republic of Congo and have plans to expand into Rwanda in the near term. We will continue to expand across the globe to address this critical need.
