Refugee Services of Texas’ Refugee Youth Program (RYP) aims to help empower refugee youth in all aspects of life through guidance and mentorship. In addition to mentor-matching, RST-Dallas assists newly arrived refugee youth aged 14-17 in becoming better adjusted and engaged in their new communities: weekly after school sports activities are just one of a wide range of programming available to our littlest of clients and we would love your help!
________________________________________
The RYP was recently awarded a grant from the FC Dallas Foundation for the implementation of a summer soccer program and we are in need of a Refugee Youth Soccer Coach!
The Coach will lead consistent 3x weekly practices, workshops, and drills for 15-20 refugee youth who have expressed interest in competing on local or school teams or who are interested in engaging in a productive physical activity in a friendly, welcoming environment. Additional leadership responsibilities include serving as a main contact for other program volunteers, liaising with RYP staff, and assessing the skills and well-being of all participant youth through provided player evaluation and health screener forms (completed at enrollment, 1-month mark, and at the end of the program).
These workshops will be held at the Raindrop Foundation Community Center located in Richardson on E Collins Blvd. Refugee youth will receive transportation from program staff and additional volunteers in attendance. Ages and skills will vary.
What to expect:
Volunteering with the RST Youth Program requires an application, background check, informal interview and volunteer orientation. Volunteers are also expected to understand and commit to follow RST policies and procedures outlined in the RST Youth Mentor Program Handbook and agreements.
English levels do vary, but do improve over time, and even more quickly with engagement and the help of our volunteers.
The Refugee Youth Program Soccer Coach will receive a small stipend - all training and general equipment, as well as food and water, are covered by the program grant. Client transportation may be required.
